The Position:

The Global Medical Director, ASMD is a critical and visible role within Sanofi Genzyme. The successful new director will lead key internal and external medical programs by integrating scientific, clinical, and commercial priorities as a member of the Rare Genetic Diseases team. The main priority is to work with colleagues around the world to ensure that patients receive appropriate care within sustainable health care systems and that patients can achieve the best possible long-term health outcomes.

The successful new leader will focus on ASMD (Niemann-Pick) and will forge strong collaborations with colleagues in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia. S/He will drive the global medical affairs strategy and lead the positioning of the program, publication planning, advisory boards, training programs, investigator-sponsored research and other specific projects involving key thought leaders. S/He will also be responsible for providing input into key regulatory and reimbursement documents. There is an emphasis on teaching, training, and the ability to think critically about the interface between commercial and clinical issues.

The ideal candidate will have experience and a proven track record of success in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, with a strong background in medical affairs. This experience should include developing strong working relationships with key thought leaders, medical communications, product strategy and life cycle management, and training and support of colleagues in other functions. The candidate should have a working knowledge of all areas of product lifecycle management from pre-clinical development through post-approval marketing. The candidate must also be comfortable working in a highly competitive product environment and understand basic and compliant techniques in medical differentiation.

The candidate must possess superb written and verbal communication skills and will be required to give frequent oral and written presentations to internal and external audiences on the medical and clinical aspects of a given disease, product, or program. A successful candidate must also be able to critically interpret cutting edge science and determine the potential impact of new research on medical thinking and practice and have the ability to use scientific and clinical data to formulate conceptual frameworks and disease management approaches. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment, and must be well-organized, able to both develop project strategies and execute project details.

The ideal candidate will be highly entrepreneurial, confident, and personable and must have the ability to successfully develop and lead high-functioning teams within a highly matrixed organizational structure. Candidates must possess ethical standards of the highest level and have the knowledge and ability to comply with all relevant ethical, regulatory, and legal standards.

Qualifications

Professional Requirements:

  • Board Certified MD, experience in specialty medicines/rare diseases strongly preferred.

  • Industry experience in medical affairs and in clinical development a strong plus.

· Working knowledge of epidemiology, biostatistics, drug development, and health economics/policy ideal.

· Experience in successfully developing peer-reviewed publications is required.

· A team player; able to collaborate successfully with both internal and external colleagues. International and cross-cultural experience is highly valued.
